Are You Nervous or Anxious About Tooth Extractions?
We accommodate anxious patients that are fearful of needles and pain. Our office offers the option for a painless-needle injection delivery system called the Quicksleeper 5®. It is virtually painless and minimizes the discomfort during the injection of the needle.
What Are Your Options After the Tooth is Extracted?
After the extraction process, your dentist at Loft 19 Dental might suggest one of the following options:
An implant is a great choice for those who would like to replace the tooth for a seamless smile. Dr Sean Chiu is a leading expert in Vancouver for implant procedures. Click here for more information about implants and how Loft 19 can fill in that beautiful smile of yours!
Platelet-Rich Fibrin Therapy (PRF)
Yes, that was a mouth full. Pun intended.
PRF is done when implants aren’t an option. Essentially, using your body’s own resources, the space that your tooth occupied in the jaw bone is filled. Without filling this in, the bone will recess causing a more fragile and smaller jaw. For more information about PRF and the benefits of filling that space can be read here.
Complex Wisdom Teeth Extractions
Sometimes your wisdom teeth can grow at angles at the back of your mouth where it is really hard to clean and maintain with just brushing and flossing. As a result, wisdom teeth and the surrounding gums can build up with bacteria and food, causing decay, gum disease, and infection of the wisdom tooth along with the neighbouring tooth in front. For these reasons, taking out the wisdom teeth may be necessary. At Loft 19 Dental, our dentists are highly trained and experienced to remove your wisdom teeth in all types of cases. You can rest assured that we’re here to help make your wisdom teeth extractions as smooth as possible.
For faster healing of the surgical site, we offer the same Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) procedure as a normal tooth extraction.
A procedure performed to increase the volume of bone, both vertically and horizontally, so that there’s enough bone for an implant to be placed. This procedure may be done at the same time as an implant placement or 4-6 months prior to the implant surgery. Our office uses allograft, which is a human bone in powder form to be used as the bone graft procedure. Your dentist will determine this at the time of consultation with a clinical exam and 3D x-ray imaging.
Gum Graft and Gum Lift
Gum Graft is a surgical procedure performed to increase the volume of your gums. Gum graft is performed when there aren’t adequate gums to cover the dental implant. Essentially, the gums from your palate are harvested and transplanted onto the area where the dental implant is to protect the new implant crown margin to help prevent implant failure and infection. This may be performed before, after, or at the same time as the dental implant surgery. This will be determined by your dentist at the time of consultation.
A gum lift is a surgical procedure used to lift the gums up where your gums have shrunk. Gums from your palate are harvested and transplanted onto areas where your gums have receded. This procedure helps to prevent further shrinkage of gums, and to cover up the exposed tooth roots, which may normally feel sensitive from the gum shrinkage.
Sinus lift is a very safe, surgical procedure performed to increase the bone volume in your sinus region, in order for the dental implant to be placed in an adequate amount of bone. This is usually performed during the implant surgery but may be done 4-6 months before implant surgery placement. A clinical exam by your dentist, along with a 3D x-ray imaging will determine if this will be necessary.
How does it work? Careful measurements are done with the 3D x-ray image to determine the vertical dimension of bone to the sinus. The gums are then surgically moved aside to expose the bone underneath. A small opening is performed surgically from the bone to the sinus. The sinus membrane is then lifted upwards using gentle water pressure. Bone graft is then placed into the already-lifted sinus cavity and the dental implant is ready to be placed.
